JiJi Zarina Baloch was a Queen who sang the poetry of Shaikh Ayaz. She was the queen of Qomi and folk music, She sang for the freedom of sindh and sang to tell people about the pride of SINDH.
Jiji Zareena was not only the Jiji and sister of Sindhis in Sindh but she was the Jeejee of all Sindhis in India and other parts of world.

She also loved her grand children Saussi Palijo, Sarmad palijo, Bakhtawar Palijo, Asad Palijo, Pirah Palijo, Soonh Umrani, Ali Umrani, Amirta Umarani, Azadi Umrani, Sahir Palijo, Sarbaz Palijo, Josh Palijo and the only one who didn't got the chance to meet Zarina Baloch her smallest and youngest grandchild Zaarinay Palijo.

BIOGRAPHY OF JIJI ZARINA BALOCH
Jeejee Zareena alias Amina Baloch daughter of Mohammad Moosa alias Baba Porho and Amaan Gul Roz was born at Allahdad Chand Village, Hyderabad, Sindh on December 29, 1934. Her mother Gulroz died in 1940 when she was just six years old. At the age of 15 her family arranged her marriage with her distant cousin and after two children Akhter alias Zeena (born in 1952) and Asalm Parvez (born in 1957) she got differences with her husband on the issue of her further education and got separation in 1958. She qualified her Final Exam in 1959 and joined Radio Hyderabad in 1960. She received her first Music Award in 1961. Her second marriage took place in Hyderabad on September 22, 1964 with leading Sindhi intellectual Rasool Bux Palijo. Her 3rd and last child Ayaz Latif was born in 1965. She Joined School as a teacher in 1967 and taught thousands of student till her retirement from Model School Sindh University old Campus in 1996. She was arrested and imprisoned in Sukkur and Karachi Jails in 1979 for leading the protests against General Zia ul Haq's Martial-Law. She was fluent in Urdu, Seraiki, Balochi, Persian, Arabic and Gujrati. She earned the title of JeeJee (mother) of entire Sindh due to her everlasting struggle against ruling classes of Punjab and against gender discrimination, feudalism and martial-laws. She was one of the leading founders of Sindhiani Tahreek, Women Action Forum, Sindhi Adabi Sangat and Sindhi Haree Committee. She visited dozens of countries and performed in London, Washington, Delhi, Dubai, New York etc. She got several awards including: Shah Latif Award, Waheed Murad Award, Shah Sachal Sami Award, Lal Shahbaz Award, Sachal Award, SGA Award, SANA Award, WSC Award, Ram Panjwani Award, PTV Award, Sindhi Sadaeen Gad Award, Faiz Ahmed Faiz Award and Pride of Performance. She introduced the new trend of revolutionary and nationalist songs and poetry in Sindh and Balochistan. She was author of several stories and poems and her Book Tunhinjee Gola Tunhinjoon Galhion was published in 1992.
HYDERABAD, Oct 26: The mortal remains of folk singer, political leader, TV & drama artiste, writer and teacher, Zarina Baloch, popularly known as "Jiji" (mother), were laid to rest in the Qasimabad graveyard here on Wednesday morning. She had died in the Liaquat National Hospital, Karachi, on Tuesday night and her body was brought to the residence of her son, Ayaz Latif Palijo, in Prince Town Qasimabad late in the night.
Hundreds of people from different parts of the province converged at the residence of Ayaz Latif Palijo. Her Namaz-i-Janaza was offered in the Prince Town. The funeral was attended by hundreds of political leaders and activists, social workers, writers, poets, intellectuals, educationists and artistes.

The Senate Chairman Mohammad Mian Soomro, Chief Secretary Balochistan Qali Bux Rind, Imran Khan of Tahreek Insaf, MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, Ghinwa Bhutto, PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto, Asif Zardari, Nawaz Sharif and Zafar Iqbal Jhagra, Rahila Tiwana also contacted Ayaz Latif Palijo and Rasool Bux Palijo extended their condolences and said that nation has suffered an irreparable loss on her death Jiji Zarina Baloch, recipient of many awards, had also received the Pride of Performance award from the then president Farooq Leghari. She had represented Pakistan in many foreign countries at various cultural forums. She had married Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo in the 60s. She also worked as a teacher for over three decades. She was an outstanding folk singer and in the 60s, she started working for Radio Pakistan and PTV. She also wrote many plays.
In the movement against One Unit, she sang many revolutionary songs of Shaikh Ayaz, Tanvir Abbasi, Ustad Bukhari and other revolutionary poets to keep people's spirit alive. Jiji Zarina Baloch had also remained in the forefront in all political movements, including the MRD and the long march from Bhitshah to Karachi against the Kalabagh Dam and Greater Thal Canal. She was imprisoned for her political activism. Political leaders and social workers described Jiji Zarina's death as a great national loss, especially to Sindh.
They said that she was an embodiment of national resistance. Noted intellectual and educationist Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo in his condolence message said that Jiji Zarina was not an ordinary artiste but her songs had infused a spirit of resistance among the people of Sindh. He further said that she was a true political activist. STPP chairman Dr Qadir Magsi said that Sindh had suffered an irreparable loss in Jiji Zarina's death. He said, her services in the national movement could never be forgotten. Noted short-story writer Hameed Sindhi said that Zarina Baloch was the "Jiji" of the whole of Sindh, and added that her death was a great national loss. Noted leftist leader, Comrade Jam Saqi said that the nationalist movement had received a jolt from the death of Zarina Jiji. JSQM chairman Basheer Khan Qureshi said that her songs had always infused a new spirit among the youth of Sindh. Others who paid tribute to the services of Jiji Zarina included Sindh National Council leader Dr Dodo Mehri, Sindh National Party leader Amir Bhambhro, Sindh Democratic Party chairman and leading jurist Yousuf Leghari, Sindh Hari Committee president Azhar Jatoi, leading intellectual Naseer Mirza, PML-N leader Afzal Gujjar and many others. Her Soyem will be held on Friday before Iftar.

They included leftist leader Mairaj Mohammad Khan, MMA leader Abdul Waheed Qureshi, the director-general of the Sindh health services, Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi, Baloch nationalist leader Yousuf Masti Khan, former provincial minister, Ismail Raho, Balochistan chief secretary K.B. Rind, former senator Hussain Shah Rashdi, former provincial law minister Muzaffar Sadiq Bhatti, MQM MPA Naeem Ishtiaq, the secretary general of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Taj Joyo, Professor Qasim Bughio, Dr Suleman Shaikh, MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio, Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro, former Sindh minister Prof Anita Ghulam Ali, PPP leader Hakim Ali Zardari, MPA Makhdoom Jamiluzzaman, noted writer Wali Ram Walabh and a host of others.

The employees of Sindhi Language Authority held a condolence meeting under the chairmanship of Abdul Qadir Junejo and offered fateha. KHAIRPUR: A number of condolence meetings were held here on Wednesday. The Khairpur chapter of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat held a gathering and eulogized the services of Ms Baloch for Sindhi music and literature. Sangat's unit secretary Jai Ram presided over the meeting. The meeting paid rich tributes to the late singer and decided to organize a function to highlight Jiji's contribution to the Sindhi literature and music.
Another gathering was held at the Radio Pakistan Khairpur. Station director Hassan Kazmi presided over the meeting. The speakers said that Ms Baloch had remained a compere of the Radio Pakistan and her songs got immense popularity among the people country. The journalist community held a condolence gathering at the National Press club.

The meeting held under the chairmanship of DBA President, Imtiaz Ali Soomro also termed Jiji's death a loss of the people of Sindh. The meeting through a resolution offered heart-felt condolence and sympathies with the bereaved family including her husband, Rasool Bux Palijo and son Ayaz Latif Palijo. The meeting later offered Fateha for the departed soul and prayed to Almighty Allah to enable the bereaved family bear the loss with patience.

HYDERABAD: Tribute paid to Jiji Zarina HYDERABAD, Dec 4: Tribu-tes were paid to the late Zarina Baloch, renowned folk singer, radio and TV artiste and political activist at a condolence function held at the Sindh Museum here on Saturday night. Noted scholars, educationists, politicians and intellectuals said Jiji Zarina was a versatile artiste and she infused a new spirit in people of Sindh through her songs.
Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo, PP leaders Makhdoom Jamiluzzaman and Sassui Palijo, Gul Mohammad Umrani, Naz Sehto, University of Sindh vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, Hashim Laghari, Taj Joyo, Hameed Sindhi, Inam Shaikh, Ameer Bhambhro and Ayaz Latif Palijo spoke on the occasion. They said Jiji Zarina would always live in hearts of people through her songs. They said she had remained in the forefront of every struggle for rights of people. They said Jiji Zarina was a symbol of struggle and her folk music had made her immortal. Mr Siddiqui announced that a corner would be established in her name in the Institute of Sindhology and a park of the Hyderabad Model School where she had taught for many years would be named after her. Mr Palijo said one of the greatest misfortunes of Sindh was slavery of its womenfolk. He said that henceforth no excesses against women would be tolerated and urged women of Sindh to emulate Zarina Baloch to break the shackles of slavery. Sindh secretary for culture and tourism Mehtab Akbar Rashidi said Jiji Zarina loved her motherland and she had struggled for rights of Sindh throughout her life. Sindhi Adabi Sangat secretary-general Taj Joyo said Jiji Zarina was the leader of the caravan which had launched a struggle for rights of the province.

Jiji Zarina Baloch died due to Brain Cancer in Laiqat National Hospital Karachi on October 25, 2005 at 10-35 pm leaving behind her three children and grand children: Sassui Palijo, Bakhtawar Palijo, Pirah Palijo, Soonhan Umrani, Amarta Umrani, Sarmad Palijo, Zulfiqar Umrani, Asad Palijo, Azadi Umrani, Sahir Palijo, Sarbaz Palijo and her most favorite grand son Josh Palijo. She told people that we have Sindh and which is dearest of all to us but I still remember the day when she passed away everybody crying eyes full of tears and my grand mother crying we all miss you JIJI ZARINA BALOCH.
